چکیده

The increased urinary excretion of citrate following administration of sodium bicarbonate has been noted by many investigators (l-9). During the course of work on the effect of uranium on various metabolic processes we wished to ascertain whether the kidney poisoned by uranium would excrete citrate to the same extent that a normal kidney does after administration of sodium bicarbonate. Surprisingly, an increased excretion of urinary citrate was found to occur following a single sublethal dose of uranium nitrate. Studies of the urinary excretion of citrate following (a) a single dose, (b) increased doses, and (c) repeated small doses of uranium nitrate and the possible relationship of such excretion to the phenomenon of tolerance constitute the substance of this paper.

The relative importance of urinary pH and urinary content of citrate, magnesium and calcium in the production of nephro calcinosis by diet and acetazolamide in the rat.

1. The association of varying levels of urinary pH, urinary citrate and urinary calcium and magnesium excretion rates with kidney citrate, calcium and magnesium concentrations in experimental nephrocalcinosis was examined in twenty-four rats in a 3 x 2 multifactorial experiment with four replicates. All rats received the same synthetic diet for 6 weeks before being killed in the seventh week. I...

Urinary oxalate, citrate, and gamma glutamyl transferase alterations after administration of Cynodon dactylon extract in cats

BACKGROUND: Urinary oxalate and citrate are the keyfactors in caox urolithiasis of cats and Gamma GlutamylTransferase is a good test for assessment of kidney damage.Favorable effects of Cynodon dactylon on calcium oxalate stoneformation have recently been proved in rats. OBJECTIVES: Thepresent study was designed to investigate the alteration ofurinary oxalate, citrate, and GGT after administrat...

Effects of chronic lithium administration on renal acid excretion in humans and rats

Lithium therapy's most common side effects affecting the kidney are nephrogenic diabetes insipidus (NDI) and chronic kidney disease. Lithium may also induce a distal renal tubular acidosis. This study investigated the effect of chronic lithium exposure on renal acid-base homeostasis, with emphasis on ammonia and citrate excretion. We compared 11 individuals on long-term lithium therapy with six...

Effects of Methanolic Extract of Oxystelma esculentum on Diuresis and Urinary Electrolytes Excretion in Rats

The diuretic activity of methanol extract of Oxystelma esculentum aerial parts (MEOE) was studied in male Wister albino rats at 5h and 24h interval. The animals were divided into 5 groups: control, urea, furosemide and 200mg/kg and 400mg/kg MEOE. The extract was administered intraperitoneally (i.p) pretreated and all animals were saline MEOE. The urine volume (in mL) and electrolytes excretio...

Role of citrate synthase in aldosterone-mediated sodium reabsorption.

Aldosterone and other mineralocorticoids increase citrate synthase activity in the kidney and enhance renal sodium reabsorption, but it is unclear whether the increased citrate synthase activity is involved in renal sodium transport. We used the Wistar-Furth rat, an inbred strain found to be deficient in renal citrate synthase activity, as an experimental model to investigate this issue. We con...
